So, you’ve decided that your business needs SEO. Now that you’ve probably Googled your heart out and read almost every SEO 101 articles available it’s now time to set up your Google Analytics account. But with so many metrics available it can be quite overwhelming, here are our three tips to getting your Google Analytics off the ground without pulling your hair out.
Just because there is a metric for just about anything it doesn’t mean that you a) should use it or b) need it. Start slow and start right. Trying to rush things just to have them ‘done’ can do you more harm in the long run with you trying to untangle a rushed day’s work.
Think about what you wish to achieve within your business for the next 3, 6 and 12 months. Being aware of your short-term goals help you focus on the data that matters most. That could be traffic, time spent on the page or sales, don’t get distracted by things that don’t matter to you just yet.
Bring in the big guns
SEO can be messy, complicated and confusing, which is why many businesses turn to a professional agency for their needs. But if you’re adamant on managing your own SEO it might be helpful to work with an agency in the initial months to assist in the development of a strategy as well as the process of setting yourself up.
Google Analytics can be a bit of a handful, so try not to get bogged down and just take it one step at a time.
